Description

Citrus paradisi (Grapefruit)
General Appearance:
A medium to large-sized citrus fruit, typically rounder than a pomelo but smaller in size. It has a smooth, thin rind that is yellow, pink, or red depending on the variety.

Flesh:
The pulp varies from yellow to deep ruby-red, enclosed in a thin but strong membrane. The flesh is juicy and has a mix of sweet, tangy, and slightly bitter flavors.

Size:
Smaller than a pomelo, averaging about 4–6 inches in diameter.

Rind:
Relatively thin compared to pomelo, making it easier to peel but often eaten after cutting.

Taste:
More tart and tangy than a pomelo, with some bitterness. Sweeter varieties, such as ruby red grapefruit, are less bitter.

Cultivation and Origin:
Grapefruit originated in the Caribbean as a natural hybrid between pomelo (Citrus maxima) and sweet orange (Citrus sinensis). It thrives in warm climates.
